From the United Counties League to the GM Vauxhall Conference; 1994-5 marked the end of a 14-year journey to the top of the non-league tree. Not that Boro’ found life with the likes of Woking, Altrincham et al easy; the first half of a season was quite a toughie for Cloughie‘s side. It took more than a month from our opening day win to clock up a second league victory. If that doesn’t underline just how big an adjustment it was, then gawd knows what does.
Yet, it seems to have become a habit that Boro’ sides are late bloomers; coming good after the festive period and driving on up the table. It happened in 1994-5. Some fine results saw us surge into the upper reaches of the table; 5th the final resting place for us that season. As for the cups? Well, Cambridge City did an effective number on us in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round at Broadhall Way. Woking, meanwhile, ended our FA Trophy hopes.
It was also the last time that Boro’ were seen competing in the Eastern Floodlit League.
