Steve Conroy came to Stevenage with extraordinary experience at non-league level; arriving in summer 1994 from local neighbours Hitchin Town. At Top Field, he had been top scorer the previous season. The Canaries earned themselves £10,000 in a deal that took Conroy to Kingstonian in February 1990. After that, the player then signed for Harrow Borough a year later; top scoring that season too. It was back to Hitchin for the 1993-4 season, having also been at Hemel Hempstead, St Albans and Chesham.
Conroy can claim the honourable feat of scoring our first-ever goal in the Conference. He fell out of favour, however, and left to join the Ducks of Aylesbury United.
