Vasili Kalogeracos came to Boro’ on loan in September 1994; the young Australian forward looking to get his English football career up and running. At the time, he was on the books of Birmingham City after graduating from the Australian Institute of Sport. For us, the hope was that he would help us get our league form back on track. We’d started the 1994-5 GM Vauxhall Conference season with an opening day win – but failed to win any of the next five.
Kalogeracos made an instant impact; scoring on debut in a 1-1 draw against Macclesfield Town. But, much like Boro’s season to that point, the early promise didn’t deliver anything further. He turned out another four times, with his final Boro’ outing coming from the subs bench. Not that it was his fault in the slightest, but we didn’t win any of the matches he featured in. And, by the time he returned to St Andrews, our woes hadn’t been satisfied. We’d need someone else…
Vasili Kalogeracos: After Boro’
The forward didn’t make a single first team outing at Brum (apparently). In 1995, he started the process of moving back towards his native Australia. First, there was a brief spell in Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur FA. And then it was back to Oz, although he did return to England once again as Stockport County gave him a run. From 1998 onwards, however, the rest of his career would be played out in Australia with clubs such as Perth Glory and South Melbourne.
