One of our many players to come and go more than once, Marvin Bates was the reliable striker who saw most of his action in the reserve team. The goals flowed at a healthy rate for the stiffs and he never let the side down when in first team action. But, for whatever reason, he couldn’t crack the nut. It probably didn’t help having someone like Barry Hayles ahead of him in the pecking order, to be fair.
