Season Summary
One, one, seven, one; the 1992-3 campaign is the odd one out in four as far as Boro’s dominant Diadora League days go, with no title win to speak of. It meant that our title-winning rate in the early 1990s took a dent to a meagre 75 per cent. It’s probably fair enough, though. In the Premier Division was a gaggle of big non-league names: Chesham, Enfield and even Stalebuns City.
For one reason or another, here were teams that had somehow failed to reach the Conference. OK, less so St Albans. But you get where we’re coming from. All serious oppo in their own right, it’s no surprise these sides gave us a hard time. Those three above were, in fact, the top three this term. The top two both clocked up more than 100 goals too.
That’s what we were dealing with. And that’s why 7th doesn’t seem all that bad in the grand scheme of things. After rising up two divisions in as many seasons, there’s nothing wrong with a little bit of consolidation. It’s not as if we were kept waiting much longer to move up another level… was it?
