The 1984-5 season saw Boro’ take part in Servowarm League Division Two North for the first time, having now left the United Counties League. It was a bold call, but seemed like the right thing to do for the club. And we backed up that decision on the pitch with a solid first showing; finishing fourth in the table and just four points off promotion. It was a very productive season for Steve Armsby in particular; netting 30 times from a half century of outings. Jim Beech also filled his boots with 25 from fewer apperances.
The season started brightly, with nine straight wins in all competitions – including the 8-0 demolition of Holbeach United in the FA Cup Preliminary Round. The two sides met again in the preliminary stage of the FA Vase too; us sticking another five goals on them. In both competitions, Boro’ won the following round but exited after the second round proper.
