Few players could win the ball in the middle of the park as Micky Herring; a popular member of the Boro’ side in the early 1980s. He made his debut at the start of the 1981-2 United Counties League Premier Division season; joining from local side BAC and going on to represent us for one-and-a-half seasons in total. Billed as an “aggressive ball-winning midfield player”, Herring also had another reason to be feared by the opposition. At one point, he was a pro wrestler; going under the name Micky “The Dropkick” Herring. Now, tell us you’d want to go into a 50-50 challenge with someone called that!
