Tim Ball was an energetic midfielder who, alongside his playing role with Stevenage Borough, also fulfilled coaching duties. Making his debut at home to Boreham Wood during the 1984-5 season, Ball was with us until the end of the 1986-7 season. This was a decent time for Boro’; winning promotion to Vauxhall League Division One on Ball’s watch. Is it a coincidence that, in our first season without him in the team, we were relegated?
Yeah. It probably is.
Tim Ball: After Boro’
The end of Tim Ball’s playing days with us didn’t mean the family ties to the club were cut. It took a few years (25 actually), but son Matt signed on the dotted line for Boro’ during the 2012 close season to continue what seems now like a family tradition. Alas, the impact he had didn’t quite match up to his father’s. Now to see if Matt’s own lad joins us in 2037 and continues the family trade. You wouldn’t rule it out, surely.
