Biography

Boro’ boss Graham Westley landed defender Luke Oliver from Yeovil Town for £15,000 just before the end of the January 2006 transfer window. At the time, the Glovers were going through a period of selling players and we were only too delighted to get our man.  And we weren’t disappointed with our investment during the second half of the 2005-6 season; Oliver turning in many impressive performances.

To be fair, he’d impressed already at Woking – both before heading to Yeovil and then again when out on loan there. But he started to find himself on the fringes of the squad during the 2006-7 and 2007-8 campaigns. Mark Stimson, for whatever reasons, didn’t seem to find the defender to his tastes. So, he went out on loan to keep his fitness levels up until Stimmo had gone. Peter Taylor then restored him to the centre of defence on a number of occasions in the 2008 run-in.

Luke Oliver: After Boro’

While retained for the 2008-9 season with GW back in town, Oliver’s time would soon be up. In January 2009, he moved on; joining back up with Taylor at Wycombe Wanderers.
