It was a bit of an amazing coup for us to land Peter Taylor wasn’t it; to replace Mark Stimson with the former England caretaker manager? He did well at Hull too, apparently. Taylor was, however, no stranger to non-league management either. Before arriving at Stevenage Borough, he’d also led both Dartford and Dover Athletic.
Of course, he’d long since made the move up into the Football League. There, he took Gillingham to promotion, as well as Hull. His task at Boro’ was no different; to take what Stimmo had left and build on it. When he arrived halfway through the 2007-8 campaign, therefore, we were looking good for one of the Blue Square Premier playoff places.
It didn’t quite pan out, though. Inexplicably and alarmingly, our promotion hopes faded. From a strong position at the start of 2008, we found ourselves two points adrift of the top five at the final reckoning. After the season had ended, Peter Taylor was no more; leaving Broadhall Way and taking up the reins at Wycombe Wanderers.
