Who are MK Dons?

In summer 2007, MK Dons renounced all claims on the former Wimbledon’s history and honours. So, as far as we’re concerned, that makes them a new club; a ‘franchise-style’ operation born out of the decision to move a club out of south London to Milton Keynes. The first two seasons saw them struggle in League One – somewhat fortunate to be getting the old Wimbledon’s league position. It brought relegation to League Two, which coincidentally saw the start of the good times. It took two seasons for them to return; first failing in the playoffs, then finishing as champions.

How to get to MK Dons

The trip from Stevenage to Milton Keynes takes under an hour on a good day, although you have to force yourself to absorb the sights (or is that sighs) of Hitchin en route. From Stevenage, travel westbound along the A602 into Hitchin before joining up with the Luton-bound A505. Shortly after this, however, bear right onto the B655 towards Barton-le-Clay.

Once at Barton-le-Clay, turn right and then left for Sharpenhoe and Harlington. Follow the unclassified road through the villages until you reach the A5120. Turn left onto the A road and shortly you will arrive at the M1. From here, you want to head north – but only for one junction; the A421 for Milton Keynes being your next step.

Continue along the A421 over a number of roundabouts; six the most reliable estimate to hand. Eventually you’ll want to turn left onto the B4034 Saxon Way; continuing across one roundabout and pass over the A5 to find the ground on the right hand side.

At approximately two miles from stadium:mk, the train may not be the most viable option for an evening match in Milton Keynes. The easiest option would be a London Midland stopping service from Euston that calls at Bletchley. Some don’t, however, and will need Southern connections from Leighton Buzzard.

An evening fixture will probably not see you return to Stevenage until the following day. It may be possible to go to Luton, however, and get a train from the Parkway station. Milton Keynes Central station is around four miles away; possibly offering more regular services.

For both, a taxi is recommended for convenience.

Limited parking is available at the ground at a cost of £7 – and you can pre-book if you’d like. Otherwise, you might want to try Castle House on Dawson Road at a cost of £5.
