Graham Westley moved to bring in former Luton Town and Chesterfield goalkeeper Nathan Abbey just before the second game of the 2003-4 season. It was a point at which both our goalkeepers were injured. And it was not the first time Abbey had been seen at Broadhall Way; the stopper here on trial under Wayne Turner a couple of years before his eventual arrival.
Abbey brought with him a wealth of Football League experience. Not only that, but he was regarded as a good shot-stopper too; an asset that ought to have served Boro’ well. But a short-term deal meant that Abbey’s future was not to be a long one with us. He moved on not too long after arriving. Since his Boro’ exploits, Abbey saw Football League action at a plethora of different clubs – such as Ipswich Town, Burnley and MK Dons.
