Biography

A highly-rated winger who joined in January 2007 from Southend United, Mitchell Cole previously played for boss Mark Stimson at Grays Athletic. He came to the club with a reputation for speedy and agile play; providing that powerful extra attacking edge. And, when Boro’ needed a kick up the behind at half time during the 2007 FA Trophy Final, Cole answered the call. His goal sparked the revival that saw us come from two goals down to lift the trophy.

As a nimble and speedy winger, however, Cole was no stranger to injuries and knocks. More often than not, these were due to the desperate defending of his opponents. He found game time restricted during the 2007-8 season as a result. But he still found plenty of chances to terrorise defences; offering a crucial part of a Boro’ front line that produced goods when least expected.

Again, injury kept Cole out more than desired during Boro’s promotion campaign. That didn’t stop him playing his part though – and on more than one occasion too. One stand-out moment from his contribution to our successful march on the 2009-10 Blue Square Premier title was a quick-fire hattrick against Eastbourne Borough.

Mitchell Cole: After Boro’

That season was to be Cole’s last with Boro’; a move to Oxford United completed during summer 2010. But it was with regret in February 2011 that his new club revealed how he had been forced to quit the game due to a pre-existing heart condition. It was a promising professional career that was sadly and prematurely halted; the player aged just 25-years-old at the time.
