The exploits of others around him almost threaten to undermine the contribution that Trevor Metcalfe made to Boro’ across three separate spells. To score more than 50 goals is a decent enough effort as it is. But to do it in little more than 100 outings is worth a massive pat on the back. It’s not much of a reward, admittedly. Not like hard cash or gift vouchers. But it’s all we have in our power.
Trevor Metcalfe: Before Boro’
Metcalfe’s first club in senior football was Pirton, where he made his debut while still at school. In a strange coincidence, Brian Williams – who’d go on to become Boro’ gaffer – was the man to give the forward his debut. The chance was well and truly taken too; Metcalfe scoring a brace and never really looking back in front of goal. But it was a habit that he couldn’t quite take with him to Letchworth Garden City after that.
Metcalfe also had trials at Watford and Luton before his career brought him to Boro’.
Trevor Metcalfe: After Boro’
Our player tracking technology is pretty rudimentary, to be honest with you. We last have him making tracks for Hitchin Town in 1989 at the end of his third spell with us.
