Gary Williams made an immediate impression by scoring on his debut in the Letchworth ‘derby’ game; signing in October 1988 from Vauxhall Motors. It was also Boro’ coach Paul Peterson who had introduced him to Motors’ first team while in charge at the Luton club. Such was the impact that Williams made at Broadhall Way that it wasn’t uncommon for scouts from Football League clubs to turn up. That type of move didn’t end up coming about, sadly. Instead, the next move that Williams would make would be – at best – sideways as he chose Baldock Town.
Gary Williams: After Boro’
In summer 1992, Williams earned himself a move to Hitchin Town; breaking into the side and displacing top scorer (and fellow Boro’ alumni) Steve Conroy. It was his late goal for the Canaries that secured the 1992-3 Diadora League Division One title.
