Biography

Another new face to come in during in summer 2010, Peter Winn added more weight to our ranks in time for our first Football League campaign. His arrival came less than one week after the capture of Darius Charles from Ebbsfleet United. But his Boro’ ended in summer 2012; released by manager Gary Smith. For BoroGuide, we’ll always remember him for Jon Champion’s screeching commentary as his goal capped off our famous win against Newcastle United in 2011.

Peter Winn: Before Boro’

Winn learned his trade in the youth ranks at Scunthorpe United, where he was named the club’s young player of the year during the 2006-7 season. His first team debut, meanwhile, was a starting appearance in a 2-1 win over Bradford City in late 2006. But Winn failed to impress his bosses and was touted around a number of non-league sides, registering interest from Mansfield Town. The winger also trialled for York City and had loan spells at Northwich Victoria and Barrow.

For the 2009-10 season, Winn moved to Gateshead on loan; scoring in both of his first two games for the club, with his total scoring record reading five goals in 27 outings. At the end of the season, it was back to Scunthorpe until Winn found himself released. Graham Westley made his interest know in the free agent; prompting the winger to turn down a contract with Gateshead in favour of a return to the Football League.
