Another one of our summer 2006 signings, Barry Fuller came to us on a free transfer from Premier League side Charlton Athletic. Although failing to establish himself at The Valley, Fuller’s loan spell at Barnet towards the end of the 2005-6 season earned many admirers lower down the league pyramid. And the highly-rated defender proved to be a top move by boss Mark Stimson.
The role that Fuller had, like John Nutter at left back, was to give our wing play that extra clout so important to Stimmo’s attacking play. And, when it fired on all cylinders, Mitchell Cole and Nutter had the left covered as Craig Dobson and Fuller took care of the right. It was a joyous sight to behold; the high point of which was the 2007 FA Trophy win and a then-Conference record of eight straight clean sheets at the start of the 2007-8 season.
Barry Fuller: After Boro’
Fuller was one of our most consistent performers during the 2007-8 season. So, it was no surprise, that Stimmo came back to take Barry off to Gillingham as soon as he could. And, in doing so, our former manager made the right-back his fourth signing from Boro’. After four years at Priestfield (lasting longer than Stimmo in the process), the defender returned to Barnet; this time on a permanent deal.
He also had five successful years with AFC Wimbledon, before going back to the Gills in 2018.
