John Templeton had his work cut out during his time at Boro’; a member of our defence at what proved to be a tough time for us. The young player made his debut for us towards the end of the 1986-7 season – albeit in a Knights Floodlit League tie, rather than Vauxhall Opel League Division One. But he was thrust firmly into the action the following campaign. His 45 appearances during the 1987-8 season was second only to Neil Madden and Graham Cox (48). Sadly, Boro’ ended up being relegated back down to Division Two North after an awful second half of the season.
Templeton remained with us as we looked to bounce back straight away. Brian Williams became manager and kept faith with the defender throughout the campaign. Even a couple of spells out couldn’t keep Templeton away from the action. But we couldn’t quite get ourselves over the line as far as promotion was concerned; coming up short by five points. Our 0-0 draw away to Aveley on the last day of the 1988-9 season was the last time Templeton turned out for the Boro’.
