Anthony Grant Player Profile
Debut: AFC Wimbledon (H, 3-1), 14/08/2012
Anthony Grant became one of manager Gary Smith’s summer recruits in 2012 after his Southend United contract expired. In opting to step up a division to League One at the time, the tough-tackling midfielder concluded a four-year association with the Essex team – where he played 150 times.
The player first arrived at Roots Hall on loan from Chelsea. The Premier League giants had also allowed him to join Oldham Athletic, Luton Town and Wycombe Wanderers on a temporary basis between 2004 and 2008, but Southend United was to be the club to provide him with a permanent home away from Chelsea.
Grant’s career at Stamford Bridge was restricted to just one game, but who turns their nose up at a substitute appearance against Manchester United? Since then, he has accumulated extensive Football League experience and arrived with his career prospects still looking up.
A popular player during his time with Southend United, Boro’ fans welcomed Grant’s arrival as a step in the right direction as Gary Smith looked to bring about a new era for Stevenage FC.
Grant also has England international caps at U16, U17 and U19 level.
