You could always be sure that striker Paul Cumberbatch would give it his all in Boro’ colours; scoring some valuable goals too. With pace and heading power, the forward provided opposition defenders with much to think about. As part of our team that was relegated at the end of the 1987-8 season, Cumberbatch helped the club through an uncomfortable period; his goals helping us to regroup in the seasons that followed. It would put in place foundations for which Boro’ could build going into the 1990s.
