Stevenage Borough added Steve Guppy to the squad a week into the 2006-7 season; the ex-Leicester City winger signing on a free from DC United. With a long career that came with England caps attached, Guppy had a reputation as being an excellent crosser of the ball. And, with his arrival, Boro’ had an extra option on the left-hand side to make use of.
At the end of the 2007-8 season, Guppy brought the curtain down on his playing career; our FA Trophy triumph ensuring he went out on a high. He then went back to the USA to join Rochester Rhinos, before moving onto Colorado Rapids.
Steve Guppy: Before Boro’
Steve Guppy has the unique distinction of being only the second player to earn England caps for both the full men’s team (at Glasgow Celtic) and for the semi-professional outfit. During his time at Wycombe Wanderers, the side latterly known as England C called him up. He also had successful spells at Port Vale during his career, as well as brief stints at Leeds United and Stoke City among others.
