You can only assume that making the switch from Farnborough left Gary Holloway short of his best, as he failed to make an impression with us. Having been praised for his potential, the central midfielder rarely looked comfortable in a Boro’ shirt; generally disappointing for the most part of his time with us.
After an injury in March 2003, Sam McMahon came in to regain a central midfield slot next to Danny Carroll. With the 2003-4 season came a fresh start, however, and we hoped that Holloway could live up to the billing that was attributed to him at Cherrywood Road. It didn’t happen though; the player finding himself down the pecking order in central midfield. The lack of opportunities soon frustrated him too.
Gary Holloway: After Boro’
Despite obvious signs of talent, it never translated into substance. In 2004, Holloway was on his way back to Farnborough. He’d also wind up at Aldershot Town and Havant & Waterlooville among others, before returning to Cherrywood Road for a third spell in 2009.
