Gary Roberts came back to Boro’ for a second spell with the club in December 1991; signing from Baldock Town two years after making his debut. The former Welsh U21 international made 40 appearances across those two stints with us. In that time, the player scored a total of 14 goals.
Gary Roberts: Before Boro’
Roberts is perhaps best remembered in footballing circles for his time with Brentford. It was a part of his career that saw him feature in 220-odd Football League games. That meant a wealth of experience was at our disposal when he first joined us, having come via Barnet, Hitchin and others on the way.
Gary Roberts: After Boro’
After his time at Boro’, Roberts’ career continued. He had another spell at Baldock, before moving on to Cambridge City, Braintree and Bishop’s Stortford. It would appear the boots were hung up for the final time in 1996; the forward moving into the dugout. Interestingly enough, he’d take charge of three of his former sides.
First, he took the reins at Baldock and managed them for two years. Next was St Albans, but it was at Cambridge City where he clearly felt most comfortable. After his appointment in 2003, Roberts remained in charge there until 2016.
