Graham Westley moved to sign Kenyan international Taiwo Atieno in February 2011 after Luton Town decided they no longer needed the forward. At Kenilworth Road, he’d scored three times in 13 appearances – but Atieno’s signature came out of the blue heading into the second half of the 2010-1 season. With Byron Harrison and Craig Reid already on our books, competition would be fierce.
Maybe it’s no surprise, then, that his time at Boro’ ended at the conclusion of the (regular) 2010-1 season; just one appearance to his name. Despite us making it to the playoffs, a contract extension was not forthcoming. After leaving us on a free, he went south west to Torquay United and also popped up at Barnet.
Taiwo Atieno: Before Boro’
Atieno has a fair amount of experience in, and outside of English football. Before his time with the Hatters, he spent some time in the US and Puerto Rico. There were various loan spells at League and non-league clubs before heading State-side too; spells following the start of his career at Walsall. International experience with Kenya also appears on his CV.
