Wes Atwell can claim something that few others can; one of the first-ever players who represented Stevenage Borough in 1976. It wasn’t until 1982, however, that he’d turn out for our first team. In his first spell with the club, we hadn’t taken the step up to senior status. So, he found his first taste of senior action elsewhere; returning to Broadhall Way soon after and going on to skipper the side. It was after a period Down Under that Atwell returned; signing from Australian side Auburn. His other previous clubs include Ware, Hertford Town and Hatfield.
Born in London, he worked as a landscape contractor. In 1985, however, Atwell had to give up the game due to ongoing knee trouble.
