It was during the 1990-1 season that Graham Aslett made his mark in Boro’ colours. But it wasn’t his first spell with us. The hard-working defender had also been there right at the start of the senior football story for us. Signed originally in 1979, Aslett was a veteran of Stevenage Athletic and would be part of the original squad to get Boro’s senior status up and running. It didn’t last long, however. In October 1979, he quit the club citing personal reasons.
In 1981, Aslett signed for Hitchin Town and would go onto represent Baldock Town too. Whether it was a case of having unfinished business or simply an opportunity too good to miss, Aslett returned to us for the 1990-1 campaign, he didn’t get a huge amount of game time for us under Cloughie; clocking up only a handful of appearances. But he did serve the club in other capacities too. There was a period, for example, when he was assistant reserve boss under Steve Armsby.
After leaving us a second time, he moved to Letchworth Garden City – another team for whom Aslett had once played.
At the moment, we don’t have any data for the 1979-80 season.
