With boss Alex Revell still looking to strengthen a new-look Boro’, forward Jack Aitchison arrived on loan in early October 2020. The news of his move to the Lamex came just one day after the lad joined Barnsley on a three-year deal from Celtic; the Championship side opting to loan him straight out. With reports that a good few other clubs were in the mix to sign Aitchison, Boro’ almost came from nowhere to steal in; adding more firepower to the squad.
It’s perhaps no surprise either. Aitchison showed what he could do in League Two during the 2019-20 season. Well, up until it got cut short. On a season-long loan at Forest Green, the forward bagged on debut and added five more to his haul at the New Lawn. Revs said of his 14th capture of summer 2020: “We’re really pleased to bring Jack in and we’re really excited to have him. He is someone that has experience at this level and is a very exciting talent.
“He adds real quality to us.”
Jack Aitchison: Before Boro’
After graduating from Celtic’s school of excellence, he became part of the club’s U17 team in February 2016. His first team debut came just three months later; the youngest lad ever to turn out for the Bhoys at the age of 16 years and 71 days. And he then chose that same match to become the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer. With high hopes, the forward spent the 2018-9 campaign out on loan at both Dumbarton and Alloa respectively. His time north of the border, however, came to an end after returning from FGR; moving to the Tykes.
