Stotfold claimed us as a scalp when we defending champions of the Southern Combinations Cup during the 1992-3 campaign. The Eagles joined the United Counties League in the season we left it, which is one good reason why meetings between us have been few and far between. In 2008, they were crowned champions too. In more recent times, the club could be found playing in the Spartan South Midlands League; relegated to Division One on the last day of the 2018-9 campaign.

Stotfold: Who Are They?

To start, though, a history lesson. The club is said to have officially formed in 1904 as Stotfold Athletic. You are unlikely to find much of them in the records prior to 1953; their time before that point had been spent in local and district leagues. The South Midlands League changed all that; a competition the Eagles would spend more than 30 years a part of. In that time, they were runners up on no fewer than six occasions. The prize that did an excellent job of eluding them each of those times, however, was finally claimed in 1981.

Baldock might well be the nearest station to the ground. Well, it’s either that or Arlesey. In either instance, however, it’s not a walkable distance.
