Place of Birth: Cambridge

An experienced Football League striker if ever there was one, Alex Revell arrived at the Lamex towards the end of the January 2018 transfer window. At the tender age of 34-years-old, it’s no shock that Boro’ gaffer Darren Sarll swooped to sign the striker on a free transfer from Northampton Town.

With such a sheer amount of experience to offer, Boro’ know they were getting a lad who knows what it takes to succeed in the League. Signing on an 18-month deal, he knew he likely had to wait to replicate his playoff heroics with us. The signature was greeted with delight and excitement; fans eager to see what Revell could bring to the Lamex.

And he put in a shift, to be fair to him. Despite advancing years, Revell led the Boro’ line on a number of occasions; first under Sarll, then again under Dino Maamria. His return of 7 goals in 43 outings played some part in helping us to within a whisker of the playoffs.

Alex Revell: Before Boro’

Born in Cambridge, Revell’s hometown club was an ideal place to start. After graduating from the Us youth set-up, there were a number of first team opportunities during his four years there. He also spent time out on loan at Kettering Town.

He left the Abbey in summer 2004; linking up with Braintree Town, then of Conference South. Helping them gain promotion during the 2005-6 campaign, Brighton came in to signhim up and off he went to the Withdean. Here, he scored his first pro hattrick too.

In January 2008, Revell moved to Southend United. He turned out at Roots Hall for 18 months, playing his last game against Swindon Town in August 2009. Three days later, he was off to the County Ground on loan. Yet, first team chances ran dry and he returned to Southend after Swindon didn’t make it permanent.

It had been thought he’d joined Wycombe on a freebie in January 2010, but Revell had already turned out for two clubs that season. In the end, he moved to the Chairboys on a three-month emergency loan. He did, however, sign a contract at Adams Park in May, followed by an longer deal that summer. But Revell opted to go to Leyton Orient instead.

After a season at Orient, next came Rotherham United. That four years was his longest spell at a club since Cambridge. With the Millers, he won two promotions; scoring twice in the League One playoff final in 2014 and helping the club into the Championship.

Then came a spell at Cardiff City in January 2015, though he fell out of favour and ended up at Wigan Athletic on loan in November 2015. MK Dons swooped to sign him on a free in February 2016, before he moved again; this time to Northampton Town in June 2016.
