Jamie Jones Player Profile
Debut: Crawley Town (H, 0-1), 06/02/2016
After making do with youth and loan stoppers during the first half of the 2015-6 season, the arrival of Jamie Jones from Preston was much-needed. It was very much one of the better signings made by boss Teddy Sheringham; Jones going on to play more than 50 times for us in a career that only lasted 18 months.
Before coming to us, Jones had been on the books of Colchester United. It was a three-month loan spell in a calendar year that saw him play for two other clubs on loan. If you really care, the other two were Rochdale and Coventry City. It did, however, seem as if Jones’ time with Preston was up, having made the move to Deepdale in June 2014 after turning down a new deal at Leyton Orient.
Jones couldn’t make the all-important breakthrough at Preston, even though he’d signed a two-year deal. It explains all the loan spells away from the club that led up to his eventual departure; an event that was to our benefit. And he certainly made the most of his time at the Lamex, displacing Chris Day as our number one. We did put a new deal in front of him in summer 2017, but he didn’t want it. Off he toddled to Wigan Athletic. And that’s that.
