Jamie Jones Player Profile
Debut: Crawley Town (H, 0-1), 06/02/2016
With youth team players and loan signings providing cover for veteran goalkeeper Chris Day during the first half of the 2015-6 season, Stevenage boss Teddy Sheringham used the January transfer window to sign stopper Jamie Jones from Preston.
Prior to his arrival at the Lamex, Jones had been at Colchester United on a three-month loan spell – one of three sides he played for during 2015 (calendar year), the other two being Rochdale and Coventry City.
He joined Preston North End in June 2014 after deciding not to sign a contract extension at Leyton Orient – a club that he spent six years at after leaving Everton and where he made his senior debut.
Despite signing a two-year deal at Preston, Jones was unable to make the breakthrough he’d have hoped for – hence the loan deals that followed. In joining Boro’, he had the chance to rebuild his career – even though he’d first have to displace Day as the club’s number one.
