Gary Mills signed on as a member of Stevenage Borough’s midfield department in May 2008; one of Graham Westley‘s first signings after returning as boss. Apart from being part of Rushden & Diamonds‘ Conference-winning setup in 2000 and picking up experience in the Football League, Mills turned out for three other clubs before joining us at Broadhall Way too. It was at Rushden where Mills first played under Westley back in 2007; becoming a staple part of the first team under GW’s leadership.
With his valuable experience, Mills sought to establish himself as an integral part of Boro’s midfield. But, with plenty of competition to keep him on his toes, we perhaps failed to see the best of Mills. He struggled to make a firm impression with us. So, in summer 2009, he decided to take his chance at Blue Square Premier rivals Mansfield Town. Mills went back for a third spell with Rushden & Diamonds in 2011.
