After leaving Rushden & Diamonds on a free at the end of the 1996-7 season, Steve Holden came to us – but failed to make much of an impact. An ex-England semi-pro international, the central defender moved down the ladder after starting his career at Leicester City. In his time with us, he made just 17 appearances; five from the bench. There were some memorable moments, however, like the FA Cup win at Swindon.
Steve Holden: Before Boro’
After leaving the Foxes, he moved to Carlisle United. Yet, it’s a loan spell at Kettering Town where the defender arguably made his first significant mark. That came in 1994, making such an impact with the Poppies that he then signed on a permanent deal. In January 1996, however, he moved up the road to the Diamonds; helping them on their way to the Beazer Homes Premier League title.
Steve Holden: After Boro’
After us, Holden’s next port of call was Cambridge City; a club it appears for whom he would see out the next few seasons. There’s a brief stint with Histon in his career mix after Boro’, before moving onto Great Shelford in 2003. After going to – and returning from –Mildenhall Town, he ended up taking the hot seat at Great Shelford.
