Can we say that Boro’ made a bit of a bold statement with the signing of Kyle Edwards? We think we just did that, to be fair. The attacking midfielder came into the ranks at the end of the winter 2025 transfer window; arriving on a free from Oxford United. The caveat at the time, of course, was the fact the player wasn’t a stranger to injuries. At our level, mind you, that is part and parcel of the game. The feeling, therefore, was that we had a proper baller on our hands if we were able to keep him off the treatment table.

Edwards’ arrival brought with him bundles of Football League experience. He’s even seen action in the Premier League, so certainly no slouch. Boro’ had endured some tough times in front of goal up until the point he arrived midway during the 2024-5 campaign. So, the attributes and know-how he had offered something different; something dynamic and in contrast to the other attacking options we had at the time. We weren’t exactly renowned for signing wingers or general wide play. So, exciting times hopefully laid ahead.

Kyle Edwards: Before Boro’

As alluded to up there, Edwards came to Boro’ with plenty of experience. He started his career in the youth ranks up at West Bromwich Albion; the club at which he turned pro and with whom he turned out in the Premier League. A 17-year tenure with the Baggies would end in May 2021; the winger released from his contract and leaving him free to move on. Ipswich Town picked him up, although he found himself going out on loan for the 2023-4 season at Oxford United. The season-long loan was cut short due to injury, but he’d wind up signing for the Us permanently in summer 2024.
