Tim Stevens

Biography

A New Zealand international, striker Tim Stevens came to Boro’ on a short-term deal in late 1997 after trials at both Reading and Bournemouth. In his brief stint, he showed us some tantalising glimpses of his striking talent; a favourable return of three goals from six starts and three sub outings not bad at all. He came to us from the Royals; impressing in his Capital League outings for us. To start with, Stevens was the ideal solution to plug a gap left by an injury to Paul Thompson. And it was a chance the Kiwi certainly took.

Tim Stevens: Before Boro’

After enjoying a successful stint in his native New Zealand with North Shore United before his attempts to start a career in English football, Stevens won a number of awards. This followed a successful National League campaign with the club he first joined as a senior player in 1993. He made a brief return to North Shore United after his spell in England, as well as Waitakere, before moving onto Football Kingz. Though based in Auckland, the club had been granted special FIFA dispensation to compete in the Australian National Soccer League setup.

That was because, at the time, New Zealand was unable to support a fully-professional league. The Kingz have since been replaced in what became known as the Hyundai A-League by Wellington Phoenix.
