Biography
One of a select few to turn out for both Boro’ and Athletic, the start of Bill Bennett’s time with us didn’t exactly go smoothly. After signing on in summer 1979 as the club took its first steps in senior football, the goalkeeper was one of three to be de-registered in Easter 1980. An ‘incident’ in Germany was the reason, though we don’t know what that is. And, frankly, we’re going to let bygones by bygone. It is worth noting that Bennett did see action for Boro’ after we started playing in senior competitions. In late 1985, he stepped up from the reserves; turning out against Harlow Town in the Knights Floodlit League.
