With goals hard to come by, highly-rated England U19 international Jordan Slew joined us in March 2012 on loan from Blackburn Rovers. Boro’ boss Gary Smith brought the forward in to provide more firepower as we closed in on the League One playoffs. But a return of zero goals in six starts and three sub outings didn’t seem to be what we wanted. He went back to his parent club, therefore, not really realising the potential Smith saw in him.
Jordan Slew: Before Boro’
Slew signed for the Premier League side at the end of the summer 2011 in a £1m move from Sheffield United; the club at which he first made his name. Slew made his pro debut in October 2010 and made more than 10 appearances for the Blades, scoring three times, before his move to Blackburn Rovers.
His Premier League debut, meanwhile, came on the largest stage possible; a substitute outing at Old Trafford as Rovers sprung a surprise win at Manchester United.
