Once our foe during a spell at Cambridge United, Chris Holroyd came to us on a loan deal from League One side Brighton & Hove Albion in autumn 2010. Boro’s scoring form during the opening months of our first Football League adventure hadn’t been great. And a need for goals was very clear. With that in mind, then, the introduction of Holroyd to Boro’ ranks was an inspired move.
A goal on debut against Lincoln City was just the start; a hattrick at Hereford United next up establishing his scoring abilities further. While his goals helped Boro’ find an extra gear, the free-scoring ability was also noted by his parent club. By the end of December 2010, Holroyd was back on the South Coast and we had to turn to a different option to fire us up the table.
