Danny Williams’s signature was secured during the 2005 close season after the rapid winger had been released by former club Hereford United; Boro’ knocking them out of the Conference playoffs at the back end of the 2004-5 campaign. The ex-Chesterfield man came in to occupy the right side of midfield; offering a great deal of pace in that position. And, with Jon Brady moving on that summer too, the right midfield spot was almost his to lose.
Yet, Williams struggled to impose himself as a first team regular; making almost four times as many appearances from the bench as he did starting. Injury also conspired against his hopes to become Boro’s first choice right winger. By the end of the season, Williams found himself looking for a new club. One could not help but wonder what could have been if we could have seen the player in his pomp.
