Graham Westley knew exactly what he was getting when he secured the signature of talented winger Richard Hodgson on deadline day in 2004. Twice before Hodgson had been the scourge of Boro’; first during his time at Darlington and again with Farnborough. He came to us after showing a keen eye for goal against us – and that’s what we’d hoped to get from him.
He also came in to give us that extra bit of creativity if Simon Wormull and Dean Brennan were out of action. But he never really lived up to that billing during his time here. Just four starts and three sub outings gave little ‘wow’ factor. And it was no real surprise – or indeed great loss – when Hodgson moved on. After a loan spell at Forest Green Rovers, he went to Crawley Town in 2004 – before moving onto Cambridge United just 48 hours after he’d rocked up at the Red Devils.
