Herbie Smith is one of three players to sign for Boro’ on loan from Barnet in February 1988 to help try and revive our season. We were lurching towards relegation at that point in time and John Bailey, then manager, hoped Smith’s addition would stop the rot. He scored in a 3-1 win against Staines Town before returning to Underhill. But that wouldn’t be the end of his time at Broadhall Way. He’d return for a brief cameo during the 1989-90 season too.
