Boro’s first new arrival during the 2024 summer window would be striker Louis Appéré; joining us on a free transfer from Northampton Town. It was the first signing of the second Alex Revell era at the Lamex – and you’d think that one forward would know exactly what he wanted from another. Appéré came to us not exactly being renowned as a free-scoring man up top. But this hasn’t necessarily been a problem for us in the past; Chris Beardsley a good example of having someone in attack who can cause problems for opposition defences.

A Scotsman by birth, it’s no shock to perhaps learn that Appéré also holds a French passport. Of course, that’s by the by as far as his on-field abilities are concerned. Having proven himself to be a handful when coming up against us, the hope (if not expectation) is that we’ll have a striker who can definitely create problems for League One defences going into the 2024-5 campaign. Oh, we almost forgot to mention that he can also play on the wing. Whether that’ll be a trait that Boro’ capitalises on is something you’ll have to check back on in due course.

Louis Appéré: Before Boro’

Born in Scotland, Appéré spent his entire youth and early senior career north of the border. This shouldn’t come as much of a shock, to be fair. His big leap to senior football came in 2016 when Dundee United signed him; their boss at that time having seen what the forward had to offer when gaffer at Raith Rovers during the 2015-6 campaign. Appéré had a trial at Raith you see, as he did at AS Roma that same season. Anyway, the Tangerines won out and the striker spent six years at Tannadice Park. That came to an end in 2022 when Northampton Town brought him south for the first time.
