One of the first players to turn out for a senior Boro’ side, Tony Shafe would end up departing us a lot sooner than thought. The defender is one of the many signings made in summer 1979 as we took that next step in our story. It wouldn’t be his arrival that we’d best remember him though. In Easter 1980, “serious breaches of club discipline” had a huge impact for three players – including Shafe. Whatever went on while representing the club in Germany, it ended up with him being sacked as a Boro’ player.
