There ain’t much more we can add to what’s been said after first hearing the news of the untimely death of Mitchell Cole – a fantastic Boro’ talent. We share the extreme sadness that others are expressing. And, of course, we offer our profound and deepest sympathy to Mitchell’s family, friends and others who knew him best. We didn’t know the man – but to watch him from the terraces at the Lamex Stadium.

Mitchell Cole and Boro’

In his three years at Stevenage, Cole frequently showed his awesome ability to terrorise and humiliate opposition defenders with speed and agility; doing much for our recent on-field success.

Mark Stimson is the man responsible for bringing Cole to Broadhall Way in January 2007; forming part of an exciting forward line with a penchant for free-flowing, attacking football. It was not long before Cole etched his name into Boro’ folklore – and indeed helping us to write our name as a club into the history books. He scored the first of those three goals at the new Wembley Stadium that turned the 2007 FA Trophy final on its head.

There were so many other moments too. Inspiring us to victory against Grays (see below) and Mansfield in the 2007-8 season; driving a playoff push with performances like the one at Salisbury City in 2008-9; and taking just eight minutes to net a hattrick at Eastbourne as we marched towards the Blue Square Premier title in 2009-10. With it, came long-awaited promotion to the Football League. Don’t forget – there’s a second FA Trophy in there too.

We won’t forget those memories. Nor will we overlook his role in helping us get where we are today. The death of Mitchell Cole has come as a shock; a tragic blow to everyone who knew him, played with him and were closest to him. We only watched him from afar. But it was a pleasure to do so. RIP Mitch.
