Biography

Jamille Matt was another of the loan options that Boro’ turned to in the early stages of the 2015-6 League Two campaign to boost our goal count. It was becoming a bit of a common theme, to be fair, and boss Teddy Sheringham didn’t seem to have the answer. Fleetwood Town let us have Matt for two months to see if he could get our attack firing.

Matt had to do what Jamar Loza and, to a lesser extent, Armand Gnanduillet didn’t really do. And that was to bang ’em in. Well, it’s maybe harsh on Gnanduillet. He did score five for us, after all. Matt? Just the one in the end. It was a bit of a punt, perhaps. The striker had missed the entire 2014-5 season through injury. And, yet, there was still faith in him; not least from Fleetwood, who’d offered him a new deal.

After his time with us, he went further south and west on loan to Plymouth. There, he had a better time of it and found the net on a more regular basis. But Fleetwood decided he’d not be getting a new deal in summer 2016, so Matt was on the move to Blackpool. With a loan spell at Grimsby in between, the striker’s next port of call in summer 2018 was South Wales; taking up the role of leading the attack at Newport County.
