Biography

Andy Lomas was signed by Stevenage Borough at the start of September 1994, arriving from Diadora League Premier Division side Chesham United. He arrived at a time when results weren’t going Boro’s way in the GM Vauxhall Conference. With his help, however, our, form soon picked up.

The goalkeeper also had spells with Barnet and Hartlepool United prior to his arrival at Broadhall Way. He only went on to feature in 16 games at Boro’ though; the return of Des Gallagher displacing him from the first team. With no route back in to the team, he moved to Rushden and Diamonds on deadline day in 1995 for a five-figure fee.

One thing you may not know about Lomas, meanwhile, is his record-breaking credentials. It was reported back at the time he was a Guinness world record holder after saving eight penalties on the bounce for Chesham; the first four against Hendon, Woking and Harrow Borough in 1991-2, followed by Harrow (again), Berkhamsted Town, Enfield, Marlow and VS Rugby in 1992-3.
