So, What Did We Miss?

Updated:

The best thing about going on holibobs two weeks into the new season is that you’re unlikely to bump into any professional footballers. It’s a small and almost insignificant upside to an otherwise shambolic situation. It’s not exactly as if we don’t know when the season starts. It comes around more or less the same time every year. And, yet, there we are bumbling around mainland Europe banjaxed by the concept of Boro’ kicking off at 4pm.

So, what did we miss while doing our bit for a smooth Brexit transition?

Well, it’s nice to come back to the news that Boro’ (in the league, at least) are still unbeaten. Not that it wasn’t touch and go as far as our last outing at Forest Green is concerned. And for our next ditty? Why, we’re heading back out west for the second time in four days, though slightly more south. Yeovil away it is, and you really do have to ask if it might have been an idea to kip at the Trowbridge Travelodge to keep the miles down this week.

Now that’s a holibob!

Yeovil Town v Stevenage: The Lowdown

The Referee

PW0 D1 LFA4; last result: Stevenage 0-2 Cambridge United, 14/04/2018

First thing’s first, and that’s the poor sod who’ll end up pissing off around 3,000 people with just 90 minutes’ work. Tom Nield is that man, and we’d rather it wasn’t. If it wasn’t for a last-gasp Mad Fraser Franks golazo up at Morecambe last term, our record when he’s involved would be a clean sheet of fluffery-buff. He’s overseen four games so far, dishing out 10 yellows – half of which came in a game between Carlisle and Northampton.

The Opposition

P30 W7 D13 L10 F43 A38; last result: Stevenage 4-1 Yeovil Town, 17/02/2018

Our 4-1 win indoors last season was our first against the Glovers in nine outings. All it did was even things out for the campaign; Boro’ going down 3-0 at Huish Park earlier that term. Yeovil are an awfully familiar foe; this being our 31st encounter means we’ve only taken on Woking and Morecambe more times. Losing an exact third of the 30 to have gone before, however, means that you can legally class ’em as one of our bogey teams.

Bogey, like their shirt colour.

The Form

Form. It means very little at this stage of the season. If you’re really that keen to draw some early conclusions, Yeovil come into this with one win, two draws and a defeat in their logbook. Both of those draws were at their gaff; Mansfield and Oldham having already made their trips to the south west this season. How much you read into that, however, is your choice. Yeovil are no more the 12th best team in this division as we are the fourth.

Or are we…?
