Here We Go Again…

Goin’ down the only road we’ve ever known, the all-new League Two season is coming towards you like an erratic pigeon. And it means business too, like an erratic pigeon. Look, we can go on about the similarities between the 2018-9 campaign and erratic pigeons all day long. Our own small contribution to the first day, however, is what matters most. Apparently. This is the 16th time we’ve gone through all this…

It is with muted pleasure and lukewarm loins that we are welcoming the number one club on the Wirral to what Debrett’s would call “our gaff”. Tranmere Rovers are back in da Leeg after coming out on top against Boreham Wood in the Conference playoffs; ending a three-year stretch as plucky non-leaguers. And, to be honest, we’ve no idea what they’re about. We’ve been far too busy keeping up with our recruitment drive.

Charles Breakspear is our man in the middle of our first dance, no doubt doing something to irritate both us and them at some point. The truth is, however, that things tend to go according to plan in his presence. Our only rum result under his watchful gaze was a 6-2 thumping in the Checkatrade Trophy at Oxford’s hands in August last year. And we all know those games don’t count towards anything in the grand scheme of things.

The headlines tonight: Boro’ are unbeaten against Rovers in four meetings, three of them being draws. It’s helpful this one is taking place indoors, however, as we’ve never won at Prenton Park. They’re yet to win at ours, meanwhile. If all is true to form, then, we don’t have too much to worry ourselves about. But you ain’t heard that from us – right? If it all goes Woking on us, find someone else to tar with feathers. Please?

The Form

Erm, we’ll get back to you six games in or something.
