Stuart Lewis came to Stevenage Borough in spring 2007 after a spell at Barnet. Having first started out at Tottenham Hotspur, the tenacious young midfielder brought passion and determination to the Boro’ midfield. He soon became a crowd favourite with some combative displays as a result.
Enjoying a place at the heart of our team during the 2007-8 season, former boss Mark Stimson came knocking. That was after Stimmo himself had gone to Gillingham; moving for Lewis in the January transfer window. He’d already made it quite clear in the media of his aim to sign the player for Gillingham.
The departure of Stimson from the Gills in 2010 meant Lewis’ own career at Priestfield was at an end too. He moved to League One newcomers Dagenham & Redbridge, before switching Wycombe Wanderers. After that, it was down to non-league; first with Ebbsfleet, then to Maidstone and Dover. In summer 2019, Lewis hung up his boots at the tender age of 31 to become a coach at Spurs – his first club.
