One of our summer 2025 arrivals, forward Beryly Lubala came with a lot of Football League experience after Wycombe Wanderers let him go. Being released by one of our fellow League One teams at the time maybe didn’t say the greatest amount on the face of it. But you have to then remember how the Chairboys had a very decet 2024-25 campaign. And it wasn’t like Lubala had a free pass at game time. Not when the highly-prized Richard Kone was in town. In all, 10 goals in 35 outings was Lubala’s return during that promotion-chasing effort.
Being let go is very much part of the game, however. And it was again the outcome for Lubala at the end of our 2025-26 campaign. A solitary goal in 35 appearances was his return for us, with most of his outings coming off the sub bench to give us greater presence up top. Maybe we didn’t play to his strengths and perhaps we weren’t the ideal fit. Never short of effort, Lubala gave opposition defenders a bit of a headache late on in games. The direction we approached 2026-27 in, however, meant that his time at the Boro’ would be curtailed at one season.
Beryly Lubala: Before Boro’
Lubala’s time at Adams Park came after a bit of a meander through the League. He started his career in Leicester; the locale in which he was raised after being born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The forward turned pro while at Birmingham City, but things started to take shape in his career at Crawley Town. Blackpool then swooped in to sign him for an undisclosed fee in 2020.
The move to the seaside didn’t exactly go to plan. Most of his game time with them came out on loan. And, in 2023, Lubala moved on to Burton Albion. His time at the Pirelli was decent enough; the forward opting to reject a new deal there, however, to sign for Wycombe.
