Even though we parted company with manager Teddy Sheringham on transfer deadline day in February 2016, we still revealed Welsh winger/striker Ryan Hedges as our latest loan signing. It felt a little bit weird, but hey – who are we to question things. We’d been struggling all season for goals; the temporary signing of Hedges was a visible indication that efforts were being taken to address that. It was the third attacking signature of the day, in fact.

Ryan Hedges: Before Boro’

Hughes followed in famous footsteps, having attended the same Flintshire school as Gary Speed and Michael Owen. His career started at Flint Town, but some impressive showings for the Welsh Schools U18s caught Swansea City’s attention and he moved to the Liberty in 2014.

Although first team opportunities were at first limited at the Premier League side, Hughes went on loan to Leyton Orient and registered his first senior goal while on loan at Brisbane Road. In June 2015, having returned from Orient, he signed a three-year extension with the Swans.

After his time at Boro’, there was another loan spell; this time at Yeovil Town. In 2017, he was signed by Barnsley on a permanent deal.p
